Description: Provides the background in logic, mathematical proof techniques and combinatorics required in Discrete Structures II and in the design and analysis of algorithms.

Grading: Weekly assignments, 2 midterms, comprehensive final exam, active participation using the iclicker.

iclicker We will use the iclicker (first model with multiple choice answers A-E suffices). The web clicker is not acceptable.

Group work

Students are encouraged to form study groups and to collaborate on homework assignments. All homework submissions must clearly list students who collaborated on the assignment. The collaboration on homework should be limited to understanding the problem and developing a path to solving the problem. Students are expected to write up their individual solutions and be able to explain them in full detail. The TA and instructor will ask students to explain their solutions. Failure to do so will be viewed as a violation of the academic integrity policy and may be subject to disciplinary action. E.g., if you copy something it is still cheating, if you discuss a problem with other students you are fine.

Textbook: Adapted version of Rosen: Discrete Math and its Applications (McGraw Hill, most recent edition).
